Access Control

Fortified vault protected by:

    • Onsite security guards and reaction unit
    • Access to the vault and to the secure box room inside it is controlled by sophisticated security systems that meet the highest global standards
    • Individual safe deposit boxes are protected by:
    • a dual locking system, consisting of an electronic lock which requires biometric and FRID verification before opening as well as a mechanical lock
    • Only two keys issued per box so only you and a second person appointed by you can open your safe deposit box

Individual Accounts

Customers based in Zimbabwe

    • Proof of residence in the name of the customer (if not, an affidavit from theLandlord or letter from employer confirming the residence of the customer)
    • Copy of National ID/Driving Licence/Passport
    • One recent colour passport size photograph (not older than 3 months)
    • Completed Application Form

Zimbabweans outside of Zimbabwe

    • Notarised copy of valid passport
    • Stamped bank reference letter on the bank letterhead –fromcustomer’s bank in the country of residence
    • Proof of residence in the country of residence

FAQ's

What is a safe deposit box?
A safe deposit box is an individually stored container held within a high secure safe or vault which is only accessible to the key holder. A safe deposit box is used to store valuable possessions that an individual may not wish to store at home, with their lawyer or at their place of work. The renter agrees to pay an annual fee for using the box, which can only be opened by combining the use of an assigned key, RFID and biometric security.

What do I need to enter?
You have to be a customer of the facility in order to enter. Our biometric systems will not allow you to enter the facility if you are not a customer.

What identification is needed to reserve a box?
Simply complete an application form and then bring any government issued photo ID to your contract appointment.

Do I need to book an appointment?
You do not need to book an appointment, we will do this for you!

What items would I keep in my safe deposit box?

    • Passports, Citizenship Documents
    • Birth Certificates, Adoption Paperwork.
    • Marriage Licences, Divorce Decrees.
    • Military awards, sports medals.
    • Bank & investment account details.
    • Last Will & Testament.
    • Degree Certificates.
    • Home Owners Property Deeds.
    • Farm Title Deeds.
    • Jewellery, commemorative coins, stamps etc.
    • Flash drives, Hard drives, CD’s with important and/or irreplaceable documents, photos and videos.

Are the contents of my box known to anyone other than myself?
No, only you know what is inside.

Can anyone other than the member access the box?
No. You will be issued with the only two keys unique to your box.

Can I nominate someone other than myself to gain access to my box?
Yes. You will be able to appoint a second key holder.

What privacy is afforded me when I access my box?
Total privacy is assured. You are allowed unaccompanied access into the vault to retrieve your box and have a private viewing room at your disposal.

Do you provide insurance cover for the safe deposit boxes?
We do not provide insurance cover, however speak to your insurer about reducing the premium on your valuable items once they are stored in our facility.

What are the security measures taken to ensuring the safety of valuables?
We have state of the art security measures in place to protect your valuables

Why use SDBF rather than a bank or lawyer?
We offer you ultimate privacy & discretion at all times. Peace of mind as your valuables are protected within our state-of-the-art maximum security facility. Convenience and a name you can trust.

What happens if I lose my keys or access card?
If you lose your key(s) or access card please contact us immediately, we will put your box in ‘lock-down mode’ meaning no one can open your box without you present. Will will then provide you further instructions. Rest assured that because access to your box requires your own biometric verification and visual confirmation of your identity by our staff no one will be able access your box even if they have both your key and card.

How do I renew or cancel my contract?
Renewing your contract can be done automatically if you select this option when you sign-up. We will also contact you in advance of your contract expiring and you get simply request via email for your contract to be renewed. You may cancel your contract by giving notice in writing. Please note that our terms and conditions apply.

What happens to my safe deposit box if I die?
If there is no ‘specified person’ on your account at the time of your death, then normal legal processes will prevail. Once the estate has been granted probate, the executor of the estate will be assigned access to the box. The person reporting your death should bring a certified copy of the death certificate to our office. Access will be allowed to the box for the purposes of probate valuation only. No items may be removed until such time as a relevant grant of probate has been shown.

Are there any prohibited items that cannot be kept in the safe deposit box?
Yes. Please refer to section above "Prohibited Items"

Does CABS SDBF hold a spare key to my box?
No. Only you have the key. You will be issued with the only two keys unique to your box.

Can the government or law enforcement agencies access my box?
No. The only case in which we are obliged to open a box is when we are presented with a valid court order.
